Please join us for the New York Release:
Wednesday, Oct 7, 2026 at 7:00 pm
Hosted by Wendy’s Subway, 379 Bushwick Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11206

The evening takes shape as a dialogue between the author and the book’s co-editor, Zoey Lubitz. Bound by temporalities, violences, and choreographies, their conversation delves into the wandering and exacting texture of the publication, and reflects on the erotics, imaginaries, and anxieties of its times and places: after Covid, in the art institution, during the 2022 Gaza offensive, in a moment of global infrastructural dynamism, somewhere in a Europe freighted with history. Readings from the work’s collected librettos and narratives will be expanded through documentation, music, and visual material that perform Gerund Violence’s critical edge and multimodal intricacy.

About the book:

Across the ports, institutions, landscape, and city streets of the Netherlands and Barcelona, this new volume from Claudia Pagès Rabal collects the artist’s research and practice around what she has called “gerund violence.” Navigating scenes of alienation, solitude, stilted encounters, political organizing, outdoor raves, depositions, and unexpected camaraderies, Pagès writes a protagonist arrested in the circuitous grammars of a suspended verbal tense, in the fugue that defines life caught in the continuous present of choreography and surveillance.

With librettos, autofiction, videos, and drawings by Claudia Pagès Rabal, and a foreword by Zoey Kira Lubitz.

Claudia Pagès Rabal's practice spans writing, sculpture, choreography, and moving image, driven by a continuous exploration of the intersections among language, law, time, and territory. Pagès Rabal's work examines the complex histories of the Iberian Peninsula and the Mediterranean, tracing how circulation systems such as trade routes, commercial networks, and legal documents carry, conceal, and sustain histories of power, violence, and erasure. Pagès Rabal work has been exhibited at IMMA, Dublin (2026); Istanbul Modern, Istanbul (2026); mumok, Vienna (2025); Index, Stockholm (2025); Art Sonje, Seoul (2025); Chisenhale, London (2025); Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona (2025); IVAM, Valencia (2024); Sculpture Center, New York (2024); CA2M, Madrid (2023); Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona (2023); Tabakalera, Donostia (2022); Vleeshal, Middelburg (2022); MACBA, Barcelona, (2022); CAPC, Bordeaux (2022); Kunstverein Braunschweig, Braunschweig (2021). Pagès Rabal has participated in Contour Biennale 11, Mechelen (2026); Istanbul Biennale 18th (2025); Biennale für Freiburg, Freiburg (2025); Manifesta 15, Barcelona (2024); March meetings at Sharjah Art Foundation, Sharjah (2018); and is representing Catalonia in Venice at the 61st Venice Biennale, Venice (2026). They published her hair (Onomatopee, 2020); Rats and Roaches (Jupiter Woods, Yaby, AC/E, 2020); and Arrela’t, nena, arrela’t (2019), and their writing has appeared in Pfeil Magazine, Interjection Calendar (Montez Press), The Contemporary Journal, and A*desk. Their first novel, Més de dues aigües, was published in Catalan by Empúries Narrativa in 2024. Pagès was awarded the Ojo Crítico Visual Arts Award in 2022, and has been an artist-in-residence at EMPAC, Troy (2025); Triangle France, Marseille (2020); and Gasworks, London (2017), among others.
